VIRTUAL WORKSHOP: "Feminine Healing & Creativity Writing Workshop" @ Online

EVENT LINK: https://galsguide.org/2025/09/02/2025-2026-writing-workshop/

FEE: $150—12 week workshop (A limited number of scholarships are available.)

Feminine Healing & Creativity Writing Workshop

Gal's Guide well-love writing workshop returns. For it's fifth year, this program will 100% online with live sessions as well as self paced videos. Perfect for a new year, a new you!

This year’s workshop will again focus on healing & creativity through an unapologetically feminine lens. Using the Mother Castle method, students will use writing and meditation to heal emotional wounds for creativity to flourish. This tool, developed by Dr. Leah “Riwo” Leach utilizes women’s history, mythology, Buddhist meditation, and compassion. Previous students found immense value in a process that allowed them to heal the hard stuff so they could write.

In this 12-week workshop, students from around the world, will also learn writing critique tools, receive feedback from their fellow writers, and have an opportunity for publication in the Gal’s Guide Anthology. Previous years this workshop was supported by National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Noblesville Creates, Indiana Arts Commission, and The Pacers Foundation.

Gal's Guide is flexible because we know lives get busy. You can take the classes live on Wednesdays, watch recordings, or a bit of both. Registered writers will have access to all pre-recorded videos and digital materials for 1 year. The live classes will not be recorded so that conversations about healing can stay private.

LIVE ONLINE OPTION: Classes will be Wednesday evenings 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Central, January 7 – March 25. Leah will lead the classes live online with group discussion, writing feedback, and questions answered. This version is highly recommended to foster your own unique writing community.

SELF LED VIDEO OPTION: Take the class at your own pace. Watch and pause videos as you need. From January – March you’ll still have access to writer feedback from Leah and your classmates.

*NEW* ONE-ON-ONE TIME: Schedule time with Leah for help with your writing and/or creativity.

WRITING COMMUNITY: Registered writers get access to a private Discord channel within the Gal’s Guide server to build community, ask questions, share stories, ask for feedback, and more.

EVENT LINK: https://www.hisawyer.com/plains-art-museum/schedules/activity-set/1692061?day=2026-01-23&view=cal&source=camps

Guerrilla Girls Workshop

Friday, Jan 23, 2026, 11:00am - 1:00pm

The Guerrilla Girls will host an art activism workshop at Plains Art Museum designed to help participants find and express their activist voices for the causes they care about most.

Learn how to make your voice heard with art!
In this workshop, you’ll explore the methods, strategies, and tactics used by the Guerrilla Girls to design your own eye-catching posters with powerful messages. Throughout the process, you’ll receive step-by-step guidance from your instructors and collaborate with other activism-minded creators in small group settings.

These workshops coincide with the exhibition Women Artists: Four Centuries of Creativityand mark the Guerrilla Girls’ first-ever visit to North Dakota. The Guerrilla Girls are anonymous feminist artists and activists who have exposed gender and racial inequalities in the art world since forming in New York City in 1985. They first came together in response to a major Museum of Modern Art exhibition that included less than 8% women artists.

At Plains Art Museum in Fargo, only 10.5% of the permanent collection’s 6,000 objects were made by women artists. What can be done to achieve equality in the arts? When their early protests were ignored, the Guerrilla Girls turned to “guerrilla” art tactics—like wheat-pasting posters across Manhattan—including their now-iconic piece Do women have to be naked to get into the Met Museum?

Hygge Market 2026

Saturday, February 14, 2026
Unique Artists, Makers & Authors
Embrace Cozy With Us This Winter!

All are invited to join us at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center for our 2nd Annual Hygge Market from 10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

This year, we’re excited to collaborate with our next-door neighbors, the NYM Public Library, to expand the market experience! While the Cultural Center will feature artists and makers, the Library will focus on hosting local authors—creating an even more vibrant, cozy event.

Hygge is defined as “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).”  Hygge is a way of life for Danes that embodies a sense of coziness, simplicity, and being present.

2026 Confirmed Vendors:

  • Farmhouse Bakery – baked goods

  • Gen Keranen – fiber arts

  • Knitted Love – handmade blankets

  • Shelley Johnson – fiber arts

  • Sunnyside Treats – baked goods

More vendors will be confirmed as the date approaches. Are you an artist or author who creates cozy, comforting, and heartwarming pieces? We want YOU to join our Hygge Market! Contact Emily at emily@kulcher.org or call 218-385-3339.

Hygge Definition:

Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is a Danish concept that represents coziness, comfort, and contentment. It’s about slowing down, enjoying the little things, and embracing moments of peace — whether it’s lighting a candle, snuggling under a blanket, or appreciating beautiful art. At the Hygge Market, we are embracing this feeling through art, creativity, and connection.

Workshop Opportunities

We will be offering two workshops during our Hygge Market on February 14, 2026!

Join us for a special creative printmaking workshop led by local artist Annalee Beaver on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 10 AM – 12 PM. This workshop is for any experience level and ability—ages 12 and up.

Class Description:

In this class, we will create a line-based design that will be transferred onto a Tetra Pak (a recycled, multi-layered carton commonly used for beverages like milk or juice). The design will then be printed onto mixed-media paper using a printing press. Participants are encouraged to bring their own inspiration or choose from a variety of original nature photographs provided by the class director.

This class will cover the full process of printmaking, from initial design through a finished print. The number of prints you can make may vary depending on how quickly the Tetra Pak breaks down during the printing process.

Please note: There will be a 1-hour lunch break from 12 PM – 1 PM, bring a sack lunch or enjoy a special discount at the Continental Divide Brew Pub two doors down!

Danish Braid Baking Class

with Kate Mudge
April 23, 5-7:30pm
First Lutheran Church kitchen, Battle Lake

A perfect treat for Mother's Day--or anytime you want to wow your family & friends with a bakery-worthy breakfast dessert. In this hands-on class, you'll learn how to make a classic Danish braid from start to finish. We'll use a shortcut lamination method that creates beautiful, buttery layers without the fuss of traditional pastry techniques. You'll mix and knead your own dough, learn how to incorporate butter for flakiness, create delicious fillings, and shape a stunning braid that looks impressive (but is absolutely doable for the home baker!)

You'll choose your own filling from two delicious options: Lemon curd & raspberry OR Lemon cream cheese & blueberry. Each person will leave with a freshly baked Danish braid, warm from the oven, extra dough to take home so you can make another one the next day, and the confidence to recreate this "fancy-looking" yet totally achievable pastry anytime you like. With its sweet cheese filling and buttery, flaky layers, this pastry braid is nearly irresistible---and after this class, you'll be able to make it yourself with ease. Perfect for holidays, brunch gatherings, or just treating people you love.
