VIRTUAL WORKSHOP: "Feminine Healing & Creativity Writing Workshop" @ Online

EVENT LINK: https://galsguide.org/2025/09/02/2025-2026-writing-workshop/

FEE: $150—12 week workshop (A limited number of scholarships are available.)

Feminine Healing & Creativity Writing Workshop

Gal's Guide well-love writing workshop returns. For it's fifth year, this program will 100% online with live sessions as well as self paced videos. Perfect for a new year, a new you!

This year’s workshop will again focus on healing & creativity through an unapologetically feminine lens. Using the Mother Castle method, students will use writing and meditation to heal emotional wounds for creativity to flourish. This tool, developed by Dr. Leah “Riwo” Leach utilizes women’s history, mythology, Buddhist meditation, and compassion. Previous students found immense value in a process that allowed them to heal the hard stuff so they could write.

In this 12-week workshop, students from around the world, will also learn writing critique tools, receive feedback from their fellow writers, and have an opportunity for publication in the Gal’s Guide Anthology. Previous years this workshop was supported by National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Noblesville Creates, Indiana Arts Commission, and The Pacers Foundation.

Gal's Guide is flexible because we know lives get busy. You can take the classes live on Wednesdays, watch recordings, or a bit of both. Registered writers will have access to all pre-recorded videos and digital materials for 1 year. The live classes will not be recorded so that conversations about healing can stay private.

LIVE ONLINE OPTION: Classes will be Wednesday evenings 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Central, January 7 – March 25. Leah will lead the classes live online with group discussion, writing feedback, and questions answered. This version is highly recommended to foster your own unique writing community.

SELF LED VIDEO OPTION: Take the class at your own pace. Watch and pause videos as you need. From January – March you’ll still have access to writer feedback from Leah and your classmates.

*NEW* ONE-ON-ONE TIME: Schedule time with Leah for help with your writing and/or creativity.

WRITING COMMUNITY: Registered writers get access to a private Discord channel within the Gal’s Guide server to build community, ask questions, share stories, ask for feedback, and more.

Alicia Hauff | Homing: Radical Re-Membering

January 31, 2026 - July 5, 2026

Homing is a solo exhibition featuring the work of regional multidisciplinary artist Alicia Hauff. This body of work examines the disconnect between contemporary life and the ecological, ancestral, and somatic systems that have sustained human and non-human communities. Homing refers to “an ability to return to a place or territory after traveling a distance away from it.” The foundational aspects of home include a sense of rootedness, connectedness, belonging, safety, and mutual care. Homing is a re-membering, recovering, and re-commitment to the greater whole of interconnected, interdependent life. Re-membering relates to the embodied act of becoming whole, putting ourselves back together again in care and community. For Hauff, homing begins with getting to know those beings all around us, every day.

EVERY BRILLIANT THING

by Duncan MacMillan with Jonny Donahue

May 1st – 17th

Sunday Salon May 10th & ASL May 17th

Directed by Scott Ecker

Every Brilliant Thing is a powerful, heartwarming, and surprisingly funny play about the lengths we go to for those we love—and the small, beautiful moments that make life worth living. The story begins when a 7-year-old’s mother attempts suicide, prompting the child to start a list of everything brilliant in the world. As the years unfold—through adolescence, love, loss, marriage, and grief—the list grows, abandoned and revived, eventually reaching one million entries. Blending comedy, improvisation, and intimate audience interaction, this immersive experience invites us to walk alongside one individual navigating the shadow of a parent’s mental illness while learning to face their own. Moving and life-affirming, Every Brilliant Thing reminds us that even in our darkest moments, hope can be found in life’s smallest miracles.

The High 48s featuring Becky Schlegel

Barry J. Houglum Auditorium, Ulen-Hitterdal School
March 13, 7 - 9 PM

Music lovers from Ulen and the surrounding area are in for a special treat when The High 48s take the stage at the Top Hat Theatre on Friday, March 13, joined by acclaimed Minnesota singer and songwriter Becky Schlegel. The concert brings together two beloved forces in Midwest roots music for an evening of high-energy modern bluegrass, soulful vocals, and storytelling songs that ring true.

This concert brings together two long-time collaborators whose musical partnership has grown steadily over the years. Blending The High 48s’ high-energy modern bluegrass sound with Schlegel’s soulful vocals and thoughtful, three-chords-and-the-truth songwriting, the performance promises a rich mix of tradition, storytelling, and fresh musical ideas.

The collaboration began well before their current lineup performances.
“We were Becky fans long before we started the band, but it took us a few years to work up the courage to ask if she had any songs for us,” said High 48s fiddler and mandolinist Eric Christopher. “And as it turned out, she did have some songs. Lots of them.”

Those songs quickly became part of The High 48s’ catalog. The band recorded Schlegel’s “Baltimore and Ohio,” co-written with Nashville songwriter Craig Market, for their 2014 album Great Northern Railroad, followed by “Christmas Every Day” on 2016’s Holidays with the High 48s. Each recording session revealed more standout material than would fit on a single album.

That deeper partnership led to the recording of “Laramie,” a Becky Schlegel original that tells a story of lost love set against the windswept plains of eastern Wyoming. The song highlights Schlegel’s gift for vivid storytelling alongside the band’s driving bluegrass arrangements.

Formed in northeast Minneapolis in 2006, The High 48s have built a reputation for combining the soulful roots of classic bluegrass with a modern edge. Equally at home honoring Bill Monroe or reimagining songs by artists like M. Ward or even The Clash, the band stands out for its originality and versatility. Their songwriting reflects their own lives as northern city-folk, offering a refreshing contrast to traditional bluegrass tropes.

Beyond the stage, The High 48s are deeply committed to music education. They are in demand nationwide as instructors, teaching workshops, private lessons, and youth programs, including their twice-yearly Grass Seeds Academy, a bluegrass jam camp for kids.

Becky Schlegel, an award-winning songwriter and performer, brings a powerful and expressive voice shaped by classic country, bluegrass, folk, and Americana. After time spent as a Nashville songwriter, she returned to the Midwest, where she has become a familiar presence on RFD-TV’s “Midwest Country,” A Prairie Home Companion, and stages across the region. Her songs are intimate, honest, and deeply human- music that whispers, soars, and lingers.

With years of shared history and a genuine musical connection, The High 48s featuring Becky Schlegel promise an unforgettable night of live music. This night of exceptional musicianship and heartfelt storytelling is a special opportunity for audiences to experience a collaboration that continues to evolve.
