Painting Poppies: An Introduction to Encaustic

September 23–26, 2026 | Instructor: Kristen Roers | Alexandria Art Guild

Discover the luminous color, rich texture, and creative possibilities of encaustic painting in this hands-on introductory workshop with artist Kristen Roers.

Designed for adults with no previous experience necessary, the three-hour workshop introduces the materials, tools, and basic techniques of encaustic—an ancient painting process using heated beeswax combined with pigment. Participants will create their own poppy-inspired artwork while exploring how wax and pigment can be layered and manipulated to create color, texture, and depth.

The same workshop is offered in five sessions, with participation limited to just six people per session to allow for individual guidance.
