Points of View: Work by Kathleen Richert and Stuart Klipper

Friday, June 6 - June 28, 2025

Evansville Arts Center, 111 Main Street, Evansville, MN 56326

June’s exhibit in the Gallery features work by water colorist, Kathleen Richert and photographer, Stuart Klipper in an exhibit entitled Points of View.

Stuart Klipper and Kathleen Richert

For decades Kathleen Richert and Stuart Klipper have wandered the countryside, separately and together, following tertiary routes and roads less traveled in search of subjects. Richert arms herself with watercolor paint, paper, and brushes; Klipper wields his trusty wide-field film camera (yes, film). Richert often quips, “Some trips we stop every thousand feet so Stuart can make a picture, but it only takes a sixtieth of a second. We may stop once or twice so that I can make a picture, and we are there for half an hour.”
Early on they discovered that they both prefer a rectangular landscape orientation. Both are drawn to subjects which are representative of a geographic area, but which include something specific and unique anchoring that image to a specific locale, even to its coordinates.

“Photography,” says Klipper, “is knowing where to stand.” For both Richert and Klipper, images begin with deciding where to stand— or sit — to frame their specific points of view.

Points of View will be exhibited in the Gallery from June 6 to June 28 and may be seen during regular Gallery hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. There is no charge.

There will be an Artist Talk presented on June 28 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception.

OPEN STUDIOS: " 4 Points of Light Open Studios" @ Evansville Area Studios

  • Evansville Area Studios (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

FEE: Free - the Public is Welcome!

Evansville artists put “Four Points of Light” on the map, and open their studios to the public on June 20 and 21, 10am -5pm.

The public is invited to the studios of four Evansville artists this month.
The four accomplished artists, working from three studios within just a few minutes of each other, will concurrently open their studios on the weekend of June 20 and 21.  Open Studio hours will be from 10 am to 5 pm each day.  As one might expect, with four unique artists visitors will find a variety of visual art.

Calvin deRuyter paints landscapes and abstracts that appeal to two different audiences.   Sometimes he is accused of painting two different paintings on the same sheet of paper – but in reality, he is painting his truth, the ying-yang that is deRuyter.

Lyssa Lovejoy is a painter who explores diverse art forms, in series of images that share a story-telling theme.  Regardless of the medium or subject, Lyssa’s ultimate goal is to allow each piece to tell its own story.

Jackie Henning taps into her extensive background in both photography and faux finishing to create intricate mixed media images.  Jackie’s works incorporate elements of photography, painting, found objects and created textural elements.

Stephen Henning is a landscape painter working in both traditional and experimental impressionist styles. Inspired by Nature, he strives to create soothing  images that take viewers far from the madding crowd.

Studio locations and phone numbers are:
Calvin DeRuyter:  18541 County Road 1 NW, Evansville 56326, 763-486-5862

Jackie and Stephen Henning:  22399-A Oak Hill Road NW, Evansville 56326, 218-948-2288

Dan “Daddy Squeeze” Newton

He will dazzle on the EAC stage on June 28 at 3:00 p.m. His fresh approach to the much-maligned squeezebox and his mind-boggling repertoire of both original and traditional material will change the mind of the most hardened accordion skeptic. Daddy Squeeze entertains and also enlightens his audiences with stories and colorful anecdotes about the accordion and his experiences making a living playing the instrument he loves.

Dan has produced more than 25 albums for himself and has appeared on recordings by other artists such as Garrison Keillor, Son Volt, The Proclaimers, Peter Ostroushko, Prudence Johnson and Pat Donohue. He has performed at The Lincoln Center, NY, The Kennedy Center, Washington DC, accordion festivals in Vienna, Austria, Kaustinen, Finland, Winnipeg, Canada, San Antonio, Milwaukee and Cotati, CA. Dan was a frequent guest on A Prairie Home Companion and spent much of his time playing accordion with his group Café Accordion Orchestra.
