Presentation: Strands of the Past | Human Hair Artwork

Join artist Karen Kennan for a free presentation, Human Hair as Fiber: Stories of Reviving Hairwork in the Midwest. From 1–2 PM, Kennan will share the history of hairwork—an intricate art form popular in the 18th and 19th centuries—and discuss her experience learning and helping revive this unique fiber tradition in the Midwest.

Free and open to the public.

Strands of the Past: Human Hair Weaving Workshop

Join artist and instructor Karen Kennan to learn the gimping technique of human hair weaving, a historic fiber art practice. Participants will receive hands-on instruction and create their own woven hairwork sample. Hair will be provided.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited to 10 participants.
