Joy is a Party, Grief is a Protest — Exhibition Reception

Friday, August 7, 2026 | 6:30–8:00 PM

The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum invites the community to “Joy is a party, grief is a protest,” an exhibition and community collaboration by the FM People’s Pride Art Collective.

The multidisciplinary exhibition explores joy, grief, rage, queer bodies, queer lives, and queer loves through collaborative altars and artwork. Visitors are invited to participate by leaving small tokens, notes, photographs, flowers, ephemera, or other mementos at the altars.

During the reception, community members can also contribute to the evolving exhibition by sharing stories orally or in writing, creating textile patches for the installation, and making collaged “pocket altars” to take home.

About FM People’s Pride Art Collective:
FM People’s Pride is an artist collective currently made up of six member-artists who collaborate with friends, family, fellow creatives, and the wider community. This exhibition marks the collective’s debut show and incorporates a variety of mediums and practices, including painting, collage, ceramics, fiber arts, beading, and printmaking.
