Art Exhibition: "Full Disclosure Selections from the Thomas-Suwall Collection" @ Plains Art Museum

Plains Art Museum

April 20, 2024 - September 7, 2024

William and Anna Jane Schlossman Gallery

Rob and Eric Thomas-Suwall – known online by their moniker, The Icy Gays or @theicygays – acquired their first artwork, Corydon Cowansage’s Stairs #3, seven years ago after discovering it online. To call this purchase life-changing would be an understatement. Becoming “art collectors” was never a goal for the couple, but this painting, with its surreal abstraction of nature, became the point of origin for their committed discovery and support of emerging queer and female artists which would ultimately grow into a landmark collection.

All About Wood
In the Gallery May 1 – 25, 2024
Reception Saturday, May 25 @ 1-3PM

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is pleased to announce its new gallery exhibit: “All About Wood” in the gallery from May 1 – 25, 2024.

“All About Wood” features art from the whimsical to practical. The wood pieces in this show vary from Dick Skauge’s carved figures, and Patrick Skauge’s wood spoons, to John Boots’ handmade paddles, a birch bark canoe by Ray Boessel, chainsaw sculptures from Scott Davis and Matt Clementson, and a remarkable carved sculpture from artist Paul Albright.

The art is beautifully made using a wide variety of woods and styles. This is a great show to purchase unique, locally-made art or place an order directly with a regional artist for a one-of-a-kind piece for your home.

A reception will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 1-3 p.m. Many of the artists will be on hand to talk about their work. An artist’s talk will begin at 2:00.

Exhibition: "Spring Crows" @ Spirit Room

Spring Crows exhibition at the Spirit Room is a noncompetitive festive exhibition. It is intended to be a mad combining of energies and visual ingredients. The theme is the crow, the blackbird, and all their marvelous and malevolent associations. The crows and ravens keep us company in the wintertime and continue to remind us with their squawks and pacing that they keep a close eye on our behaviors and movements. Crows are known to play catch with twigs, to slide down snowy hills on their backs head-first, to soar and dive for entertainment, to carry shiny objects back to their nests for contemplation, and to collect hallucinogenic seeds in the fall, saving them to bring color to winter-white boredom. Let these mischievous creatures inspire you and lead us into brighter days.
