Layl McDill brings Millefiori to EAC
Millefiori means "thousand flowers" in Italian, it originated as a glass blowing technique . Layl McDill creates millefiori pieces with polymer clay. Her exiting 2025 exhibit, “Crops of Curiosity - Art About Farming” will be on display in the Evansville Art Center Gallery during the month of September. Layl is the Co owner of Clay Squared to Infinity in Minneapolis and Art to Change the World Board Chair.
Her technique and materials are very mysterious. She primarily uses polymer clay with the ancient technique of millefiori. Tiny images that cover every surface of her sculptures inevitably make the viewer wonder “How did she do that?” And even though she have been doing it for twenty years, it still seems amazing to her that she can create a tiny picture that can be inside a chunk of clay. She also likes to incorporate found objects and her own colored pencil sketches in her work. Playful and serious art at the same time!
This unique, colorful, creative exhibit may be seen during regular Gallery hours on 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, or by special appointment.
