McKnight Fellowship in Playwriting

The McKnight Fellowship in Playwriting supports mid-career Minnesota playwrights who demonstrate a sustained body of work, commitment to their craft, and a distinct artistic vision.

Fellowship Term: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027
Award Includes:

• $25,000 stipend

• $2,500 for play development and professional expenses

• $1,400 for travel support

• Affiliation as a Playwrights’ Center writer following the fellowship

Eligibility

• Must be 18+, reside in and have legal right to work in the U.S.

• Must have lived continuously in Minnesota since Jan. 8, 2025, and maintain residency through the fellowship year.

• Must have one fully produced professional play prior to the deadline.

• Not eligible: Full-time students, recent McKnight Artist Fellows (2021–26), or Playwrights’ Center/McKnight staff, board, and immediate family members.
