The stories of signature artworks from the M State Fergus Falls permanent art collection can now be enjoyed as a walking tour both on and off campus. Explore the creative work and stories of more than 20 artists.

More than 400 works of art in all mediums are now displayed in classrooms, offices and public areas. Student work, regional artists, and commissioned works comprise this time capsule, truly art in every season.

In the 1960s, faculty member Charles Beck began the permanent art collection creating a culture that honors the visual arts. Through Beck’s efforts, Fergus Falls Community College became the first state community college to budget resources for the purchase and care of visual art. Fergus Area College Foundation (FACF) and the M State campus have sustained the art collection for decades, making it a signature feature of our college.

English faculty member Warren Olsen assumed oversight of the collections in 1992. He was a strong voice during building projects. He created curiosity and recognition for the art collection.

More recently, we have been able to pursue environmental recommendations, build suitable storage, and develop a database cataloging the collection. We continue to embrace the collection as a teaching tool. As the curator, I also wanted to bring history to light by telling the stories.
