In 1860, Eliza Winston secured her freedom through a legal appeal after escaping enslavement in Minnesota. In “It Took Courage: Eliza Winston's Quest for Freedom,” author Christopher P. Lehman sets the record straight, separating fact from fiction and showcasing Eliza Winston’s remarkable battle for freedom. Join your library to hear from the author about his process writing the book, methods of research and get an overview of the people and places involved in Eliza Winston’s enslavement and how slavery existed in Minnesota in the time of Eliza's captivity.
