In coordination with the national release of Ken Burns’ documentary about the history of country music, Pioneer PBS is releasing a locally produced companion documentary Country Music: Made in Minnesota which combines compelling interviews, commentary and music selections from Minnesotans who have shaped the sounds of our beloved country music from the stage and audiences alike.

Featured in this edition of Minnesota Original, is painter, Caitlin Karolczak, who is inspired by vintage medical photos and deathbed portraits. Also featured is fiber artist Erica Spitzer Rasmussen, who creates wearable art and sculptures using tomatoes, matchsticks and human hair.

Public Television’s Grassland Jam will feature the Laurel Mountain Ramblers on Saturday, May 18 at 7 p.m. The program will be available for online viewing immediately after the broadcast on www.pioneer.org/grasslandjam. The broadcast will be repeated on Monday, May 20 at noon. The performances were recorded at the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old Time Music Association Festival held in Richmond in August 2018.

Public Television’s Grassland Jam will feature the band Singleton Street from Delano on Saturday, May 4 at 7 p.m. The program will be available for online viewing immediately after the broadcast on www.pioneer.org/grasslandjam. The broadcast will be repeated on Monday, May 6 at noon. The performances were recorded at the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old Time Music Association Festival held in Richmond in August 2018.

Singleton Street combines bluegrass, gospel and Americana music and features Sherri Leyda on vocals, guitar, pennywhistle and bodhrán; Chuck Leyda on mandolin, guitar and vocals; and Jimmy Newkirk on bass and vocals.

Singleton Street has performed for more than a decade entertaining audiences at bluegrass festivals, Irish festivals, churches and Renaissance fairs in a five state region. The band is known for its tight harmonies, energetic arrangements and a fun and friendly stage presence.
