Add some art into your summer! Classes are led by experienced teaching artists and will provide students with a variety of artistic skills and techniques.
Grades 1-4, Our Giant Book with Torri Hanna: Have fun playing with words and pictures with Torri as we work together to create a colorful giant book! Each day we will draw, color, paint, cut and paste our way into adventure! In the process, we will learn about plot and character development, page design and illustration, and cooperation in a group project. Each of us will get a smaller version of Our Giant Book to keep, and we will display the original for everyone to see.
Grades 5-8, Op Art with Rebecca Krueger: Learn about optical illusion art and create your own “Op Art” while discovering artists such as Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley. Use drawing and sculpture techniques to create and learn how perspective, repetition and color contrast can create illusions of movement that trick the eye!
Grades 1-4, Let’s Make a Selfie with Rebecca Krueger: Discover the theme of self-portraiture through the arts. Explore artists such as Frida Kahlo, Vincent VanGogh, Pablo Picasso, and others. Create your own self-protraits in styles inspired by the artists mentioned above. You will learn how to render the face realistically and abstractly while using colors and subject matter to create dynamic compositions with paint oil pastels, and collage mediums.
Grades 5-8 with Naomi Schliesman: Develop and learn techniques of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design through drawing, painting (acrylic & watercolor), printmaking and mixed media sculpture. You will learn about artists that use these techniques in realistic and abstract ways. You will also create a collaborative installation with your classmates that will be exhibited at the Kaddatz during the month of August.
