Waypoint Award: Call for Minnesota Artists

Application Deadline: Friday, May 29, 2026

The Minnesota Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MNPQC) is seeking original artwork from Minnesota artists for the Waypoint Award, an annual honor recognizing individuals who have made meaningful contributions to improving maternal and infant health outcomes across Minnesota.

Artists are invited to submit a symbolic, non-literal artwork concept representing safe, respectful, and high-quality care throughout the perinatal journey. The commissioned artwork should evoke themes of connection, community, care, and support while drawing inspiration from Minnesota’s waters and landscapes.

The artwork should thoughtfully reflect the many stages and experiences connected to the perinatal journey, including prenatal care, pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum recovery, parenthood, infant loss, NICU experiences, and substance use recovery. Rather than literal imagery or figurative human forms, artists are encouraged to explore metaphor, symbolism, and environment to communicate these ideas.

This opportunity is intended for artists age 18 and older who are based in Minnesota. Due to the short timeline, applicants are asked to submit a fully developed or near-complete artwork concept demonstrating their overall vision at the time of application.

Selected artists will work collaboratively with MNPQC staff through a series of check-ins to finalize the commissioned piece.

Commission Amount: $1,000

Timeline:
May 29, 2026 – Application Deadline
June 5, 2026 – Artist Notification

Applications will be reviewed by MNPQC staff and Board of Directors.
