For the fourth year, Evansville Art Center in conjunction with Minnesota Dark House Association, is presenting an exhibit of hand-carved spearing decoys for ice fishing.
These remarkable works of art are used to lure fish into the fishing hole in the dark house so that they can be speared. Bright colors attract the fish. Subtle curves to the fins, tails as well as internal weights create realism to the decoy’s movements. Carvers include John Peters, Kurt Sonie, Dennis Bertram, Ron Jacobson, Ruben Hiltner, Robert Hedlund, Harland Englund and many others from Western Minnesota.
Becky Albright has been invited to join the exhibit with Gyotaku. This Japanese technique for recording the details of the fish is centuries old with precise details of every scale and fin. She will have prints and other items for sale.
THIS EVENT IS FREE.
